Yes ~ this sounds like a great topic to explore. Count me in, Michael!

so ... it's the two of you (Lyn and Michael) and me ..so, from my point of view, this can't fail to be anything but a complete, contemplative education in its own right.

Count me in!

Well ... It's a slow business, this contemplative education :-)
Still thinking.....
Hmm, and I'm still counting my breaths!
And I'm watching.
Hi Michael,
I am interested in this topic... so here goes...out with the breath....and into space...

I just hosted Michael Carroll for Vancouver Shambhala, and we invited the business community into the meditation hall. It was both instructive, and interesting, to watch him engage groups in a progressive process of applying the insights from sitting practice to their work environments. He had us sit, contemplate, and discuss repeatedly, successively adding another principle of mindfulness to the discussions. Participants generated insights and possibilities, and people were inspired to apply them in their personal situations. I was inspired to go back and re-read Awake at Work, and The Mindful Leader.

What are you reading, doing these days that applies our contemplative POV to education?

Building a website for buddhist-inspired educators looking to help develop effective, compassionate citizens, to share their experiences, insights and questions. It will go live before the end of the year.
Sounds fantastic,Michael. A beacon in the storm, and a potentially creative meeting place.

The young women I am meeting here in BC are facing the challenges of training for fields that have very few openings, and of holding true to their dreams, and of maintaining confidence in the face of changing obstacles. They are looking to contemplative leaders for mentoring, and for answers.
Hello Friends,
I'm currently on a sabbatical from my work as a consultant-coach-staff developer for our local public school board. Right now I'm "moving at the pace of guidance to sense an emerging future" regarding the "what if, what now and what next" of my own life-work.
Over the years that I have attended Shambhala-ALIA, I integrate those skills and practices into my work and have a "reputation" of sorts for creating learning environments and leadership retreats that are peaceful, graceful, inviting and evoking places for possibility, change and complexity. Sitting in silence, creative process, art of hosting practices and readings from books like Awake at Work and Teaching-Leading with Fire are mainstays. This then ripples to the classrooms.
While I worked initially on the edges, I sense more of my colleagues are yearning for these experiences and practices to maintain their compassion and commitment to their calling as teachers and leaders. I'll welcome being a part of this conversation and your website, Michael.

Hi Michael,

It was great to meet you last month!

Are you still working on this?

Warmest,

Inma
