Embodied Leadership module; harvesting insights and exploring deeper

I loved the module Embodied Leadership from Wendy Palmer. And I love the fact that she will team up with Adam Kahane next year.... that just kick starts everyone's wildest fantasies...

What I want to dedicate this thread to is harvesting the insights from this module embodied leadership, sharing how it is going (and not going) with walking the talk "out there" and sharing tips on keeping up the practice.

Everyone is welcome to join in, my main aim is towards the participants of Wendy's module.

Personally I was convinced that after this week I would do my daily centering many times, like Wendy told us to :-) and that I would take up my sitting practice again. I am doing more of the centering exercises and using it more with clients (-Thanks Wendy for reminding us to always let them do it to us first! :-) I almost forgot in my enthusiasm-). I am not, yet, doing sitting practice daily. I have done it more often for brief moments during the day.

I loved the honesty in the module: that you just need to practice a LOT to get and stay centered and embodied, in the same way that reading one book will also not get you a PhD... No magic tricks, just practice. And therefor focus and discipline.... and grace.

I was hoping I would go back to aikido training immediately! I did not. It was too cold outside...

I don't mean to bother you all with my struggles, I mean to give some examples that I think a lot of you will recognize. Or else I am basically f*#$% now, because the whole community knows I have trouble getting my but on my meditation cushion!

So, hi everybody! How have you been?
What part of the embodied leadership is working for you beautifully?
What are you struggling with?
What questions are alive for you?

Love, big hug, Anouk

Hello all

Congratulations on changing your quality Chris...an inspiration and a "permission"...I look forward to seeing your shiny!

I am just re-entering the regular world after my Pause for Breath retreat - thank you so much for your support and the cheering on from different quarters! I find I don't really have a great deal to say about it...I keep drawing on a quote from the Sculptor Andy Goldsworthy who, as he watches his work being swept out to sea on the incoming tide, says:

“The work has been given to the sea, as a gift, and the sea has taken the work and made more of it than I could ever have hoped for.”

Together, the participants and I created something more than I ever could have imagined or hoped for in my design...to be sure there are things I will do differently another time but last week seemed so "right" without being perfect. I have been working on the idea of "a little more" of the wisdom and practice of all my teachers and their lineages flowing through me (added to my centring practice after inviting my quality) and I had a flip chart on the wall with many of my teachers named on it, to remind my personality not to get in the way ;-) It mostly seemed to work!

I was very tired by the end, despite two supporting coaches...and yet still managed to be present and recover centre fairly consistently...I didn't sleep too well, adrenalin I think, and so was gradually going into deficit over the week. The location was a retreat house attached to the Samye Ling monastery and so I went to silent meditation each morning and that helped resource me, as well as getting up and doing my own practice beforehand. (BTW Chogyam Trungpa was one of the founding people for Samye Ling I think - he was in Scotland for a couple of years before Halifax).

I did end up chanelling Wendy at one point and wonder if I am now practicing a whole new martial art called taichido! I had to change tack in the middle of the week in response to something that came up and which drew me towards setting up the "not right now" activity. I did this (with some trepidation) as the last activity of the week and, despite my not being able to do it smoothly myself, managed to coach participants to a workmanlike job! It was a powerful transition piece for them. I have a request for those who will be joining Wendy in April (SOON!) - can you give me some practice on this activity please? Perhaps in break times or after "school"!

I feel so pleased (and priveleged) to have finally manifested this piece of work, which I have envisaged for a few years...and the week at ALIA truly set me up for it. I feel I have encouraged a few more people in organisations to breathe...and to recover centre if they choose to practice. I have confirmed the next dates if you know of anyone who might be interested to participate: 13-17 September. For more details see www.originate.org.uk.

The journey continues...in London in a couple of weeks time...

In the meantime...what would it be like if there was a little more of your quality in your being right now?

Hugs

Amanda
Hey all,

I've been quiet because I haven't had much to say, but my thoughts are with you all - especially you lucky ones going to Wendy's course in London next month. Meanwhile, I'm uploading an image of folk's qualities that I know of.

Love to all
James

Hi all,

Hope the embodied leadership experience is continuing to unfurl nicely for everyone.

We have now confirmed that Wendy is coming to Ireland in early July and will be running a residential workshop in the beautiful West from July 8 to 10. Details are attached, anything you can do to help spread the word to people who might be interested will be much appreciated. Times are still hard, as you know, so we have to work hard to make these things work, but we know they will.

The venue is quite basic, but is on the edge of an area of limestone scenery / ecology known as the Burren which is one of the most remarkable environments I have ever come across anywhere. Wild coasts, ancient history, rare fauna, wild music - if you can come, you should try hard to stay a while !

We are very excited to be hosting Wendy in such a wonderful place - hope a few of you may be able to join us !
