With just over four months to go before we convene ALIA Europe in the Netherlands, our design team and our communication team are buzzing with intensity.

I feel inspired by the level of activity and commitment shown by our European partners. Presenters are also designing and preparing their material. With one or two exceptions, the programme is in place, and in two weeks we have an important meeting with our venue host, Mennorode Conference Centre. Collectively we are propelled toward this auspicious gathering.

And so, I can't help but wonder what atmosphere we will be stepping into, come January 10th.
What are you sensing in your region within that vast expanse we know as 'Europe'? I'm experiencing cautious optimism here in Halifax. Although we're groaning with the possibility of yet another Federal election, and preparing for a new strain of flu, things seem to be on the upswing. People talk about economic recovery instead of collapse, and my own sense of opening up is reflected in others.

What is the pervasive mood within your region, organization or family?

Cara Lynn!

In Sweden the H1N1 flu, (swineflu), is the big thing. We will offer the whole population free vaccine, starting end of September. This will probably affect a lot of things, like meetings and travel. Local and regional government are recommending their people not to attend open meetings. Sweden is a very (sometimes to much!) safety oriented country. A week ago I was in the Netherlands and people didn´t seem to take the flu as seriously as in Sweden.

We will certainly promote the January ALIA Europe Conference and some of my colleagues are planning to attend.
