Cultivating Resilience

Last week I was at an inspiring meeting in the Santa Cruz Mountains.  A dozen of us gathered from different parts of the US to continue an exploration of common ground.  There's a confluence happening.  Especially over the last decade people have been working with different words to explore the same questions: How do we create healthy communities?  Communities where happiness is pursued, not  consumption.  Communities where people live with the graceful bounty of this planet rather than…See More

Art of Hosting Social Innovation at Outside of Bangkok, Thailand

June 10, 2011 at 1pm to June 12, 2011 at 6pm
Art of Hosting Social Innovation, Thailand, June 10-12, 2011.  People all around the world are learning how to work with what they have rather than complaining about what's missing.  Every community and organization has the resources and knowledge to begin living the future now.  The Berkana Institute has been working around the world with people and community-based organizations who are making a real difference.  What we've found, over the last decade, is…See More

New Possibilities Arising in Japan

I've been working in Japan for the last couple of weeks and am amazed at what is stirring here. We've just finished the first Art of Hosting Conversations that matter in Japan with 75 people from around the country gathered in the foothills of Mt. Fuji for a deeply moving 3 day event. Earlier, I offer a series of five workshops in Tokyo; one of the early ones is described in the last blog I had a chance to write on my site:…See More

Hello Bob, Congratulations on your new knee. Amazing what can be done these days.  I'm glad you're healing well, and look forward to seeing you leaping about in the future.

Thanks very much for reading the draft, and for your comments. I appreciate your encouragement, and your suggestion. Part three was a tricky part for me in writing it, and I agree it needs more attention. Wendy Palmer asked what practices there are for people to connect with the ideas on a more concrete level, and I thing the addition of more practices at the end is needed. I'm revising with a view to publishing in the spring.

And when it's done I'll be very pleased to have you add it to your site resources. I enjoyed some of your Japan posts, you seem to have made a remarkable number of connections and been part of a remarkable number of community-enriching events. Inspiring. Thanks again for your help. Yours, Crane

Glad it came through, Bob. Someday you'll have to tell me more about how Japan is the home of your heart. So much of it is beautiful and heartfelt, and to my eye so much of it is strange too. But I hope you have a fine, fulfilling visit. Yours, Crane

Hi Bob, How's Japan? I was there when I was sixteen and was amazed. The gravel bed that the bumper set in at the end of railroad track in a little country station, were racked zen-style.

I look forward to your book comments. They'll be helpful. Revising for publishing in new year. Thanks, Crane

Hi Bob,

I'm just back from facilitating five great days with the Pathways group at Windhorse Farm, one of my favourite places, and getting into the swing of the book. I'll be publishing it myself early in the new year. I wonder if maybe you've had time to give it a look. Any comments would be timely as I'm getting into revisions and additions now.

I hope you're enjoying the autumn of the year, and look forward to hearing from you.

Yours, Crane

Hello Bob,

Thanks for writing. It's summer in Nova Scotia, a very brief event, and I'm writing from our boat. But between swims and sails am working on revisions to the book, so looking forward to your thoughts and feedback. I wonder when our paths will cross again, but will be pleased when they do. Best to you, Crane
