thanks Peter, I'll take a look at those links! It is heartbreaking, frustrating - all the emotions when you see indigenous people no longer being able to live in their homelands!

I don't have answers at this point but would love to join in on the conversation. Our Alaska Native villages are in crisis mode what with the high cost of fuel, shortage of jobs and out-migration of young people. Let's connect!

Please share something about yourself, your work, and what draws you to the ALIA community.
I am interested in learning more about hosting conversations that matter on difficult issues - strengthening my own capacity to listen, to learn and to connect with others in Alaska and around the globe. To be able to serve as a conduit for positive dialogues which may lead to change.

Greetings!

I've read about the Institute and the good work being done, conversations hosted, and learnings and am excited to be a part of this community and attending the 2010 Shambhala summer institute.

As a way of introduction, I am an Alaska Native - part Haida and Tsimshian Indian on my father's side - as well as Irish-German. My Tsimshian name is 'Gil-golsh' and I'm of the Eagle clan. I've lived in Alaska all my life.with feet planted in both with Alaska Native and business communities.

I work for an Alaska Native statewide non-profit whose mission is to advance Alaska Native people and communities through community engagement, information and research, collaboration and leadership development. We house an Alaska Native Policy Center as well as having a number of programs aimed at emerging leader.

We've hosted one statewide conversation among Alaska Natives on the topic 'where are we and where do we want to be?" and will host two more in 2010. We're also hosting an Art of Hosting session for emerging leaders in March.

I'm excited about learning more - there's a lot of conversations going on around the globe and here in Alaska - it's good to be a part of something positive!
