Please share something about yourself, your work, and what draws you to the ALIA community.
I am principal of an innovation research firm, Redesign. I'm a partner in the new firm Dialogic Design Int'l, a partnership for collaborative design and planning based on the systems view of dialogic design science. We convene workshops that harness collective wisdom for complex problems.
I am an experienced systems design, research and strategy consultant with a PhD from the Union Institute. I'm a professor at OCAD University, Toronto, a faculty lead in the Strategic Foresight and Innovation program.
I should update my profile here, in case I meet you in Columbus. I've read and practiced the Shambhala path since 1983 or so, and honor its relationship to my personal practice. I have appreciated the ALIA and Art of Hosting practices as the Tao of convening. I have also honor a strong Confucian sense of the value of social order reflected in structured processes such a structured dialogue. The SDD way also honors the wisdom of the Athenian Agora and individual autonomy. Connections between these paths reveal a balance between agency and structure that guide interventions in complex problem systems.
I wrote We Tried to Warn You: Innovations in Leadership for the Learning Organization (2009). In 1998 I published Team Design: A Practitioner’s Guide to Collaborative Innovation. I am currently researching material for the book Design for Care: Making Design a Critical Healthcare Profession, to be published by Rosenfeld this year.
Peter, Thanks for responding. I'm actually on my way to Vancouver Island myself. I talked to Greg about pulling a few key people together in Columbus to talk about design for social innovation, but didn't manage to organize anything. Let's see if we can pull something together semi-spontaneously. I very much look forward to meeting you too. Susan
Hi Peter - glad to welcome you to the ALIA Ontario group. See the posts on the site about a pre-Columbus get together on June 13 at the Centre for Social Innovation. Cheers
Peter, I'm glad to hear that you are coming to the Summer Institute. It sounds like you've been doing interesting research that would be of interest to the ALIA community. Are you connected with Greg Judelman and other friends in Toronto who are also involved in dialogic design and innovation?
