Hello, my name is Reggie Edwards. I am the youngest child of Earnestine and George Edwards. I reside Mankato, Minnesota where I currently serves as the Executive Director of Region Nine Development Commission. Region Nine is a regional government covering south-central Minnesota. I work with about 261 local units of government in the collective on policy, physical, social, health, environmental and economic development. Region Nine also provides state and federal policy advocacy. I have done other things such as adjunct professor at a local university, and city and county administrator. I earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Central Florida in 1992 and earned a B.A. in Journalism/Public Relations. Reggie is a Humphrey Leadership Fellow Alumni, and an American/German Marshall Memorial Fellow. Over the past 15 years, I have focused on issues of governance, government finances, organization development, conflict resolution, cultural diversity, system thinking and strategic planning. I have particular interest and experience in bridging rural and urban areas.
There are three core areas of life development that I am committed to working on at this point in my life. First, is the development of the concept of public entrepreneurship. Public entrepreneurship is a fundamental shift or opening to a hidden side of innovation, creativity, and democratic within government. Second, I am committed in work to close the gap between the “Haves and Have-Knots” (economically and in sovereignty). Through the development of a newly launched company called Sovereign Security Inc., it seeks to bring wealth creation and independence to moderate-income and poor people. Finally, I am committed to being the best father possible to my four boys. My deep intention of working in the three areas gives me purpose for seeking the profound wisdom and experiences of ALIA.
